Industrial Machine & Manufacturing named Saskatchewan Manufacturer of the Year

Published by CME Staff on February 05, 2014

Industrial Machine & Manufacturing Inc. (IMM) has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Saskatchewan Manufacturer of the Year award, for its exemplary achievements in the areas of business success, dedication to community and industry, and employer excellence.

The award was presented by Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) and RBC Royal Bank, February 4, at the first-ever Minister's Manufacturing Dinner, hosted in partnership with The Honourable Bill Boyd, Minister of the Economy, Government of Saskatchewan.

"This important recognition celebrates the manufacturing leaders that are making outstanding contributions to the economic growth, job creation, and quality of life in Saskatchewan," says CME President & CEO Jayson Myers. "These are the champions driving our communities; and I am proud to recognize Industrial Machine & Manufacturing for its continued leadership and innovation in the province."

Founded in 1956, the Saskatoon-based company has made North American headlines in recent months for its Wheels of Dreams project. The employee-driven initiative — originally launched as a team-building exercise — centered on the custom build of Snakebit, a 1956 Ford F100, which sold for $450,000 at the 2014 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale this past January. One-hundred per cent of the proceeds were donated to the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan.

"We at RBC are so proud to support and celebrate this dynamic, collaborative, and innovative industry," says Lynette Gillen, Vice President Commercial Financial Services, RBC Royal Bank. "We are thrilled to demonstrate that support by recognizing IMM for the difference they have made in the industry and across the community as an excellent example of the Saskatchewan spirit."

In 2013, Saskatchewan's manufacturing sector employed roughly 28,400 workers, generated more than $15 billion in sales, and contributed more than $47 billion in total economic activity.
