Saskatchewan Manufacturing Council

It wasn’t long ago Saskatchewan was in the heartland of ‘next-year country’ — a place of economic hardship and a source of much-needed labour for the rest of Canada. How times have changed. Driven by a revived agriculture industry and extensive resource development, the province now boasts one of the most dynamic and thriving manufacturing sectors in the country, employing more than 28,300 workers (January 2013) and shipping more than $13.9 billion (2012) in goods around the world each year.
But success has also been met with challenge — from unprecedented skills shortages and infrastructure deficiencies to continued uncertainty south of the border. And with a new era of opportunity on the horizon, the time for action is now.
That’s why, in January 2013, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME) launched the Saskatchewan Manufacturing Council — an exclusive group of senior manufacturing executives, operational leaders and key stakeholders from across the province, who have come together to speak with one voice on priority issues impacting Saskatchewan manufacturers and exporters.
